Pet horses are how you would normally think to have your character own a horse in an rp. You do not receive a picture for your pet horse and can find one on your own. You can rp out riding it, caring for it and give it attributes that you deem fit, but you cannot use it to compete in any of the events, it cannot legitimately breed, earn money or be sold for money on your account. You may certainly rp that you sold it, but you will gain no money from this.

Here at Elmendorf we do things a little bit differently. This is a merge of an adoptable rp and your basic text based academy rp. The horses are the adoptable portion of this site and you can completely opt out of participating if you wish, though your character will not have a horse to compete in events with or earn money off of. The whole point of this sort of side adoptable game is to get as many horses as you can, figure out what breedings result in the best show horses, brood mares, studs, and figuring out how to make your horse a more successful show horse. You can only aim to do one of these or you can aim to do everything, it’s really up to you.
Drawn horses are each assigned natural talent, breeding ability, charisma and other ‘invisible’ stats which Vicious keeps track of. You are not told but can figure out through showing and breeding and once you figure out the system you can quite literally breed a better horse.
Training is an integral part of making your horse a better show horse, and the more you participate in lessons and rp with trainers, the better a horse you will have. Trainers and instructors may better their training by rping out that they have been working their horse and the amount of training bonuses will be added to your horse’s stats based on the quality of the post.
getting a drawn horse
Every new character is given the option of receiving a foundation horse. They keep it, take care of it, raise it, train it, breed it and are given the opportunity to buy this horse when they graduate for a very low price. However a character may opt out if they choose, though after this it can be extremely hard to get a horse. These foundation horses are not custom colored, so you may only chose the name, breed and discipline. I color it and choose the gender randomly.
There are a few other ways to get a horse. The only way to get a custom horse is by winning a show, which will be explained later. ( A custom horse is a foundation horse where you get to choose the breed, gender and coloration, you might even be able to convince me to make a new pose/breed if you’re extra nice to me. ) However you can obtain foundation horses as well as bred horses other ways, listed below.
Breeding – If you have a mare, you may breed her. If you don’t have a stallion(Most of you wont since students are not allowed to have stallions unless they talk to the admin) you can either make an agreement with another player who has the stallion you want to breed with or pay a stud fee the player sets. The site changes months every Sunday(your characters and horses don’t have to age quite that fast, though, this is more for the purpose of the adoptable portion of the rp. However weanlings and yearlings age a bit faster than the site), and for time’s sake a mare’s gestation period is shortened to two weeks. So that means if you breed your mare two weeks later you get a foal. Foals can not be ridden until they are 3 years old.
Round ups – Every now and then a round up will take place and several wild horses will be available to good homes for free. However it’s first come first serve.
Buying – Sometimes the popular tack store The Modern Performance Horse will have a sale. Once again, this is first come first serve and is a mixture of foundation horses and horses bred from some of the school’s horses. These do cost money and can be quite expensive, though.
Sometime in the future you’ll also be able to buy horses from other users.
showing
So far there are only two disciplines which you can show in, english and western. You choose your horse’s discipline when you receive it. A horse’s discipline can only be changed if it is sold, just because it’s easier for me.
A show is fairly simple. It is based off the invisible stats a horse has and the quality of your posts within the show. In the most basic show where all horses on a completely level playing field, one horse is chosen randomly to win the show. So essentially for every horse that enters they get their name thrown into the draw once, making the probability of winning equal.
However, like in the real life, even between all green broke horses, it is never a level playing field. Some horses are simply better at showing, and this is something you have to experiment with and find out for yourself. However a horse who is simply more talented than others will have their name entered into the draw more than once(you don’t see how many times individual horse’s names are entered into the draw since this represents ‘invisible’ stats) raising their probability of winning.
Also like real life, horses with more experience are usually better than those with none. Your horse has its name entered into the draw once for simply being a horse, and then will have its name entered again equal to the amount of shows it’s been in and the amount of training points it has. If your horse wins a show it gets three show points.
For example: (please remember that you cannot see your horse’s stats and will have to figure them out yourself through trial and error)Horse # 1 Stats:
Natural Talent – 2 pts
Training Points – 2 pts
Show experience – 1 pts
Horse # 2 Stats:
Natural Talent – 1 pts
Training Points – 1 pts
Show experience – 1 pts
Which gives me this:
Horse # 1, Horse # 1, Horse # 1, Horse # 1, Horse # 1, Horse # 2, Horse # 2, Horse # 2
And then I enter it into random.org, which means Horse #1 has a higher chance of winning, but Horse # 2 still has a chance.
If you win a show, you win your character a custom foundation horse and $500 dollars added to their account. If you don’t want your character to have this horse, they can gift it to another character (not one of your own characters, however), or they can sell it to the Modern Performance Horse for $500 dollars.
